I'M A PATRIOT

Patriots Represent South Africans at the I20 Summit on Immigration

Day one of the summit. The United Civic Organizations of South Africa took part in the I20 Summit on Immigration — a key global engagement under the G20 framework focusing on migration, citizenship, and the socioeconomic impact of border management.

The summit brought together civic movements, policymakers, and representatives from various African countries to engage in open discussions about the future of immigration governance. Among the notable attendees was Dr. Leon Schreiber, South Africa’s Minister of Home Affairs, who addressed the gathering with a speech that touched on the department’s approach to immigration reforms and the challenges facing South Africa’s border and documentation systems.

Representing I’M A PATRIOT, Dr. Gordon Rolls played a pivotal role in the discussions. When a negative narrative about South African citizens began to emerge, Dr. Rolls firmly and intelligently managed the discourse, steering it back to the core issue — the consequences of uncontrolled immigration on South Africans. His timely intervention helped diversify the conversation, ensuring that the realities faced by South African citizens were properly understood and respected within the broader context of regional migration.

Reflecting on the experience, many Patriots felt deeply disappointed by how foreign-funded organizations seemed to dominate the platform, often pushing agendas that exclude or silence South African voices. It became clear that our own government has sold out its citizens, funding initiatives that have little regard for the people directly affected by these immigration policies.

That moment captured the spirit of true patriotism: courage in the face of suppression, unity amid exclusion, and resolve to speak truth even when outnumbered.

The United Civic Organizations delegation included leaders and representatives from:

  • From right: I’M A PATRIOT – Dr. Gordon Rolls, Abahambe Civic Movement – Mr. Mavundla and Tsepo, Fiyela movement – Mami, Count Me In – Bong, Put South Africans First – Faith, Abahambe Civic Movement – Tsepo, Fiyela movement – Thokozani, Unmute – Dimakatso

Together, these movements presented a united front, emphasizing that immigration must be managed in a way that prioritizes South Africans, protects jobs, ensures fair access to public services, and upholds the rule of law.

Dr. Gordon Rolls from I'm A Patriot, skillfully managed a negative narrative about South African citizens at the I20 Summit, realigning the presenters to focus on the core issue — the impact of uncontrolled immigration — and diversifying the discussion to ensure balance and fairness.

IFaith from Put South Africans First addresses South Africa’s unemployment crisis and the challenges of integrating undocumented migrants. Faith argue that real change must begin with confronting hard truths about illegal employment, exclusion, and the large number of skilled South Africans left without opportunities. A bold call for accountability and prioritizing citizens in rebuilding the nation’s economy.

Dimakatso from UNMUTE reflects on how the apartheid system created deep structural inequalities, especially in education, which was designed to serve the oppressors rather than empower native people. She emphasize that even today, the education system still excludes many children and fails to provide the right skills to uplift communities. The speaker also addresses issues of misinformation and disinformation, linking them to social harms such as drug peddling, sex trafficking, and modern slavery, which exploit vulnerable groups. Dimakatso calls for honesty, justice, and active civic engagement to address inequality and protect communities.

The participation of I’M A PATRIOT and allied movements at the I20 Summit marks an important milestone in the ongoing civic effort to ensure that South Africa’s immigration policies reflect the will and welfare of its citizens.

In this heartfelt message, Mami from Fiyela movement shares frustration about Africa’s leadership failures and the growing tensions around migration in South Africa. Mami calls for open dialogue, mutual respect, and accountability from all African governments. Rather than fighting each other, she urges unity to rebuild Africa and prevent the continent from falling under the control of foreign powers.

As discussions continue at both national and global levels, the Patriots reaffirm their commitment to advocating for responsible immigration, national sovereignty, and the restoration of dignity for South African workers and communities.

We are Patriots — standing firm for South Africa.
