This week, our journey took us to Middelburg — a place known for its natural beauty, yet one that conceals serious and troubling challenges within its community.

We had the honour of speaking with uBaba Mfundisi Simelane, a man of faith who has dedicated his life to running a rehabilitation centre for those battling addiction. His story is one of resilience and purpose, but also one that reveals the harsh realities faced by those trying to rebuild lives in environments plagued by crime and intimidation.

During our conversation, several alarming issues were brought to light. These include allegations of drug trafficking involving local officials, claims of police corruption and abuse of power, and disturbing reports of a community cover-up involving poisoned children. We also discussed the immense difficulties of operating a rehabilitation centre under such conditions, as well as a shocking case involving kidnapping, alleged rape, and apparent failures within the justice system.

These are not just stories — they are urgent matters that demand our attention, our voices, and our action.
